Fort McKay, Alberta (Dec. 4^th, 2017) – Fort McKay Prepares to Defend Key Cultural Heartland – Moose Lake Area from Prosper Petroleum Development before the Alberta Energy Regulator

FORT MCKAY, ALBERTA: Fort McKay First Nation is finalizing its preparations for the upcoming Alberta Energy Regulator hearing on Prosper’s Rigel Project. The original hearing was scheduled to commence on October 17^th, 2017 but was adjourned by the AER at the last minute due to the Prosper’s deficient Water Act Application. The new hearing is now scheduled to begin January 9^th, 2018.

What:                Prosper is proposing the first phase of its oil sands development in the heartland of Fort McKay’s culturally important Moose Lake at Namur Lake and Gardiner Lake. The community is preparing to attend this hearing to again protect its last refuge before the Regulator.

When:               The Hearing date is scheduled for January 9^th, 2017.                                     9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Where:              Hearing commences at MacDonald Island Park, Shell Place, 1 C.A. Knight Way, Fort McMurray, AB T9H 5C5.

Who:                  On hand will be members of Fort McKay First Nation, member witnesses, expert witnesses and elected officials.
